While Josh Koscheck has vastly improved his striking and BJJ skills, his NCAA division 1 championship in wrestling, always makes his bread and butter taking opponents to the mat. However, Georges St. Pierre in recent interviews has made it clear he feels he’s better than Koscheck in every category, including wrestling. The skills of Koscheck taking opponents to the mat with his explosive shot have been well documented, but lost in the shuffle has been the excellent wrestling skills of St. Pierre. Sean Sherk with his fast and powerful shot was not able to take down St. Pierre; on the contrary, St. Pierre zoomed in and drove Sherk to the mat in grandiose fashion during their bout. Dave Menne was able to put Koscheck to the mat in their bout, and we may witness St. Pierre actually try and do the same this time around. St. Pierre may take away Koscheck’s chance to score a takedown by striking first with his own.
