Hughes on Couture Situation

Matt Hughes posted comments on his website prior to today’s press conference:

“I don’t know exactly what is going through Randy’s head, I haven’t talked to him, nor have I talked to Dana White about this situation. However, I somewhat agree with Randy. A couple of years ago, the UFC was a much smaller organization and I knew everybody that worked for them. When I wanted something, I knew who to call and who would get it done. I miss that.

“Nowadays, it seems like new employees of the UFC call me everyday. The problem was they got so big so fast they had to get more workers. So now it’s just a much bigger organization and things are a lot different. Dana doesn’t know all that goes on over there. It seems like he’s off doing his own thing. So I’m sure that a lot of what Randy is mad about, Dana has nothing to do with. A lot of times the UFC will call me up and ask me to do things. If my schedule’s busy or I don’t want to do it, I just say no. If Dana White calls me up and asks me to do something I always do it. And if I need something done at the UFC, I know I can always call Dana.

I don’t know if Randy is done fighting, I don’t know if he’s wanting to go out and fight for another organization. At first, I heard money was the reason Randy quit and then I heard it wasn’t, so there is a lot of things that I just don’t know…

I’ve also heard that Randy did this because he wants to fight Fedor Emelianenko. Right now Randy’s stock in this sport is pretty high, so if he is wanting to go out with a bang then what’s left for him? Nothing, but maybe Fedor.”
