Frankie “The Answer” Edgar recently was a part of an interview on MMAweekly.com’ s radio show. “The Answer”, was questioned on the origins of his nickname during the segment. “My buddy Chris Ligouri who I train with everyday, he gave it to me”, explained Edgar. “It kind of goes good with Edgar, they say I’m always answering back, so I guess that’s where it stems from.”
On his upcoming bout with Spencer Fisher at UFC 78, Edgar noted he is training with various camps around New Jersey but also has trained a bit with the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose. He anticipates the fight to enter pretty much every realm one can imagine an MMA bout taking place in. “I’m willing to do what I have to do to win, whatever it is–if I have to stand with him, take him or fight off my back”, said Edgar in the interview. “I think the kind of fight Spencer brings it’s going to be a high paced fight so I’m expecting it to go everywhere.”
As far as his undefeated 7-0-0 record, Edgar asserts it is not any added pressure on him. Winning for him is paramount regardless of the the record he sports. “I hate to lose to lose no matter what”, says Edgar. “Even if I have a couple losses on my record in the future or not, I’m still going to hate to lose the same amount. So I don’t think that really affects me too much.”
Edgar fights in front of his hometown fans this Saturday night in Newark, New Jersey.
