5 Questions: Brandon Vera’s BJJ coach, Master Lloyd Irvin

How has Brandon Vera’s ground game evolved over his past few fights?
With Brandon the focus has been working on the basics. With people with ground skills like Minotaro, and Werdum in the division we’ve been focusing on specific things for awhile now. Brandon’s game has evolved very well for mma.
Is training going to be any different for his next bout with Fabricio Werdum?
Is training going to be different? Yes and No. Brandon’s training is always specific to who his opponent is. I’m bringing in a secret weapon to Brandons camp, a multiple time bjj world champion and abu dhabi champion who is very familiar with Werdums game. We will have a solid plan specifically designed to defeat Werdum.
What new dimensions are you adding to his game ?
I have Brandon doing something special for this fight that he’s never done before. I’m so excited about it but can’t say anything at this time. But as long as Brandon continues like he’s doing, this fight is going to be lots of fun!
Do you have a “money submission” for Brandon, where if he scores it in a fight, he gave him a cash bonus?
It’s my “money move” and yes, he always gets a money move, all of my guys do. One of my 9 year olds won $600 from me for hitting the money move of the tournament twice. (laughs)
Which other fighters are you training these days?
Lots of guys, we have guys coming in and out all of the time. Right now the focus is on Ron Stallings and Mike Easton preparing for The Ultimate Warriors Challenge happening on April 26, then Muhsin Corbbrey will be fighting Nick Diaz in EliteXc, then Brandon in the UFC. I have a bunch of new guys to look out for in the future that also have fights in may like Marshall Thompson at 155, Jeff Blachey at Heavyweight and I have a 18 year oid training with me named Frank “The Crank” Camacho, he’s been fighting for 2 years now and has like a 12-2 record already but he’s so raw. He moved to America from Guam to train with me full time. This kid is going to be a killer when I’m done with him. It’s scary to actually think that he’s only 18 years old.

Several thanks for the wonderful post C I
