Q&A: MMA fighter Liz Posener
Canadian fighter Liz Posener competes in Grapplers Quest this weekend.
How do you feel about competing at Grapplers Quest in Vegas?
I am so excited to be fighting in grappler’s quest. Years ago, I used to read about it, and hoped that one day I’d be good enough to go. I don’t really get a chance to grapple with women, so it’ll be a great experience for me.
I’ve done 4 grappling tournaments in the past year, and in all of them I’ve competed in the mens divisions. I won some, lost some, but it’s all good. It was also one of my goals to see if I could compete with men and my weight and rank.
How have you grown as a fighter over your past few fights?
My grappling’s come a really long way. Two years ago I did my first grappling tournament and got tapped by a kimura, and didn’t even know what a kimura was yet. When I first started to fight, I set my goal for 10 MMA fights. I did it in under a year & a half. It all happened so quickly and I learned so much from each fight. My last fight was Sept 29th and since then I’ve been working really hard to improve.
What’s next for you after Grapplers Quest?
After grappler’s quest I’m going back home to my kids. They keep me pretty busy.I’m a single mom with 2 kids, aged 12 and 3. I’ll keep training hard, and I’m not sure what’s next. I have alot of offers coming in, I just haven’t decided on which one’s best for me yet.
