What are your thoughts on Jens Pulver’s striking?
He’s got knockout power in both in both his hands and his legs also. I feel like it’s going to be a fight where I’m going to have to be somewhat cautious, but I feel I have a lot of things I have I’m better than him at, and he doesn’t have too many things that he’s better than me at.
Are you increasing your emphasis on striking?
I think I’ve always been putting emphasis on my striking. That’s one part where I’m still growing a lot in, I’ll probably use a lot more leftys, when it comes to that. But I think more than anything I want to improve in all aspects of the game, just as much as my Jiu-Jitsu, my strength as well. I’m always training everything.
You choked out Jeff Curran last time out, how has your BJJ skills improved?
They’ve improved a lot. I started training Jiu-Jitsu four and half years ago right after I graduated college and started training with Cassio Warneck, who’s a BJJ world champion, so I started out with some great teachers. From there I’ve watched tapes, traveled and worked with a lot of the best available jiu-jitsu guys in
Definitely still a work in progress and I think it will be until I’m done with the game. You see a lot of the best fighters are getting better with age, and that’s because there’s so much to learn in the sport. Look at Randy Couture, he’s at the top of his game right now and he’s basically been storing away this knowledge and learning from other people and adding to his game and it’s something I plan on doing until I retire.
I worked out there for 2 weeks and they’ve got me out to help BJ with Sherk, just be a practice partner for him and it was a great experience. It was awesome rolling with BJ, he’s a world class athlete. Learned some cool stuff there.
Just train with a lot more southpaws, n
