Demian Maia may be next in line for title shot, Possibly in August
Cage Potato reports the following:
A source close to the camp of UFC middleweight contender Demian Maia has informed Cage Potato that the Brazilian is expected to be offered the next middleweight title shot against the winner of the Anderson Silva/Thales Leites bout (in other words, Silva) late this summer
If Thales Leites can’t thwart the wrecking machine at 185 that is Anderson Silva, the best contender might be Maia at this point. Although I’d see Silva taking this one as well, if it does go to the ground, Maia’s mastery in the BJJ realm for the MMA game is astounding. He’s bringing fighters back a decade and a half to the single-numbered UFC’s where once the fight was taken to the ground by a BJJ specialist it was over. It won’t be easy to submit Silva, who is a blackbelt in BJJ himself, but Maia’s level of grappling seems to be a whole other level. He’s grappling dominance is akin to the striking prowess Silva has shown on the feet.
