In The Ultimate Fighting Championship®, no feud has been more inspired than the one featuring light heavyweight legends Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. Silva vs Silva?: Wanderlei Silva Warns Anderson Silva

Posted 25 Apr 2009 in Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva

Wanderlei Silva feels Anderson Silva’s performance against Thales Leites at UFC 97 was disrespectful to the fans, and to Leites, as Silva appeared to be playing around with the challenger during the match. W-Silva warns A-Silva that that if the two tangle he should not definitely play around and put his hands down, or else he’ll pay.

Silva vs Silva would be a great fight at 185, the weight class Wanderlei appears to be looking to compete at after his bout with Rich Franklin at 195 pounds. Should Silva get past Franklin a bout between him and Anderson would be a great fight to watch. It’s not too fair though to allow Wanderlei to hop right into a title shot at 185, so should he pick up a big win or two at middleweight, then be all means put the two Silvas in their together.

Everyone is talking about how Anderson is a counterstriker and comes across somewhat boring against fighters who don’t engage with him; well fighting Wanderlei would be a perfect then because you hardly ever have to worry about Wanderlei Silva being unaggressive in an MMA fight. The only time I really saw him somewhat timid was against Ricardo Arona in their first bout, likely because he was afraid of the superb takedown skills of the fellow Brazilian.

But Anderson will have plenty of opportunities to counterpunch against a man who has made a career out of savagely attacking and KOing opponents with some of the most hyper-aggressive Muay Thai technique seen in the sport.

There would certainly be no complaints of this fight being boring. Wanderlei won’t be falling to his back trying to goad Anderson into his guard. The part of the brain dedicated to experiencing fear seems to be completely deadened every time Wanderlei steps into the cage. His ferocity and courage to go after fighters on the feet made him a legend in Pride FC and a fan favorite to new UFC fans as well.

Silva vs Silva would be a great fight not just stylistically but from a storyline perspective it appears there’s quite a bit of meat in this rivalry. The two fighters were teammates before but there now seems to be quite an undercurrent of hostility and animosity between the two Brazilian fighters.

If there’s one fight I want Wanderlei fight at 185 it’d be with Anderson. And if there’s one more fight I want Anderson to fight at 185 it’d be with Wanderlei. Hopefully we’ll be able to find out who the better man and better Silva is and get these two inside the Octagon soon.

Honestly I think the majority of people lost respect for Silva. At this point I want to see someone smash his face in.

IMO that fight should have been called a draw. Dancing around the guy you are fighting when he is still standing doesnt make you tough. It makes you a chump. I dont care if Silva could whoop my ***, ill tell you one thing I certainly wouldnt stop throwing to dance around until one of us is knocked out.

Id like to see Fedor utterly humiliate this guy. It wouldnt even be a close fight. Fedor would destroy him, snap him in two, and use his little shorts as a snot rag.

Best fighter in the world? Absolutely not. Franklin is a better fighter even though he did lose to Silva.

UFC lost so much steam they had. Ive heard countless people saying maybe the sport isnt ready for mainstream, and its true.

Dana, I suggest you not put him in the ring again and if you do make sure the other person will carry the show.

    Pathetic fight.

What sucks even more is the rest of the fights were pretty solid. Needless to say im not buying the next few UFC’s as i just feel ripped off. Ill check back @ UFC 100.

alot of new fans were turned off by the main event. many wanted to see silva fight because they were accustomed to seeing him knock off people’s heads in past fights, but were not pleased after the leites bout. next time though he’ll probably be back in fine form…hopefully
