Dana White talks UFC 100 and Brock Lesnar

Whether you like him or not, you have to give it up to Brock Lesnar. He has accomplished so much in a very short span as an MMA fighter. If a fighter has such a great wrestling background and sheer athleticism with is speed, power and strength, it is not a shocker that he can achieve a lot in the sport of MMA. But what is most impressive about Lesnar has been his courage to step right into the fire with the top dogs in the UFC. That fearlessness has been coupled with unbridled confidence which is such a precious attribute as a fighter. If he had a weak-minded and wavering mind about the issue coming into the UFC he could have broken down after the Mir fight and went into obscurity. But he truly had a strong faith in his abilities and was ready to use the knowledge gained from his loss to Mir to jump up the ladder.

This rematch with Mir is a tough one to call. Both fighters have a good shot to win this fight. Mir is one of the best ever at heavyweight when it comes to slapping on submissions from a wide variety of positions. Against a relative BJJ novice such as Lesnar, this could prove to be deadly. Lesnar is quite intelligent and knows he has to counter the super slick submission game of Mir, but it will be very interesting to see if he can handle the heat should uncompromising positions take place in the cage next month at UFC 100.

By the same token, Lesnar’s fists have done some tremendous damage to his opponents. Lesnar is not the best striker and Randy Couture on paper was the better standup fighter than him, but it was Couture who hit the mat after the two exchanged fists in the second round of their heavyweight title bout.
The power Lesnar has in his hands is very dangerous and if he gets Mir on the mat some good ground and pound could potentially take out the Las Vegas native.

If it’s a stand up affair, once again it’s a situation where power is up against technique. Mir is the better striker, but should one of those gigantic fists be thrown and land on Mir’s chin it could be a similar situation to when Lesnar defeated Couture.

This fight really could go in so many different ways. Lesnar is still a wild card because he’s a baby in the sport. He may be the biggest infant you’ll ever see in an MMA fight but he could possibly show a whole new dimension to his game against Mir. He hasn’t reached anywhere close to his potential as a fighter, and he currently holds the UFC heavywseight gold. That in itself speaks volumes for what could be in store.
