Ray Mercer KOs Tim Sylvia

Posted 14 Jun 2009 in Uncategorized

Good job by Ray Mercer to KO a former UFC champ in his first pro MMA bout. Although a huge upset, if you stand up with a former boxing champion this is not an outcome totally surprising. Sylvia didn’t have a chance to bring the fight to the mat, because it was one and done in this fight. 48 year old Ray Mercer actually upstaged Randy Couture in some respect with the age factor–Couture was 44 when he toppled the giant Sylvia. Obviously it’s ridiculous breathe Mercer in the same sentence as Couture when it comes to MMA but that little fact stands out for a second.

Another fact that stands out is that Sylvia weighed in at over 300 lbs. He didn’t take the fight seriously, and suffered because of it.

300 lbs, damn, that is deep into the superheavyweight division.
