Fast Strike: UFC president Dana White on Toronto, Canada
“There is absolutely no reason for Canada to not accept this sport. There’s an education factor; we need to educate people. I’m going after Canada after (I get approval in) New York and Massachusetts. I’m attacking Canada. I’m going to spend so much time in Canada I’ll have to buy a house. I’m going to live here until it’s done. I’m going to be sitting on the porch every day they come to work…This fight (between St-Pierre and Penn) should have been in Toronto or Hawaii. Canada is a huge market for us. Toronto is the mecca, this is the place to be as far as MMA is concerned.”

UFC targets Toronto, Canada

“There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be in Toronto,” Dana White noted today at a press conference pumping up GSP vs BJ Penn II. “We’ve got a nine-year record of health and safety. There is absolutely no reason for Canada to not accept this sport. There’s an education factor–we need to educate people”, the UFC president added.
Ontario, the province Toronto resides in has not lifted their ban on the sport of MMA. White has his eye on aiding this process. “I’m going after Canada after New York and Massachusetts. I’m attacking Canada. I’m going to spend so much time in Canada I’ll have to buy a house. I’m going to live here until it’s done. I’m going to be sitting on the porch every day they come to work.”

July 08 Update on MMA in Ontario
From canadianmma.com’s newsletter:
“The Board Members of the Canadian Mixed Martial Arts Association (CMMAA) are continuing to do everything we can to get the sport of mixed martial arts sanctioned in Ontario, Canada. Unfortunately, there isn’t a whole lot to report for the month of July 2008. The government remains firm in their stance of wanting to see an amateur safety record before considering instituting regulations for professional MMA. CMMAA submitted our application to become the sanctioning body for amateur mma in Ontario back in October 2007 and we continue to wait patiently for our application to be reviewed by the Ministry of Health Promotions (MHP).
