Fabricio Werdum: “Overeem is my son”
Brazilian heavyweight Fabricio Werdum steps into the cage to compete against Alistair Overeem on June 18th at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. The rematch between these two giant heavyweights will decide who advances into the semi-finals of the StrikeForce heavyweight Grand Prix. The first time the two met, Werdum scored the submission victory over Overeem in the Pride 2006 Openweight Grand Prix Opening Round. A lot has changed since then, especially the skillset, power and size of Alistair Overeem. But simultaneously so has the quality of MMA technique that Werdum possesses. Overeem has taken on a mythic status among some MMA fans with his dominating performances as of late. However Werdum is arguably the biggest giant killer in history of the game when he handed Fedor Emelianenko his first loss in June of 2010. Werdum looks to shatter the mystique around another monster heavyweight one week shy of last year’s triumph.
