Chuck Liddell sponsors fellow light heavyweight Lyoto Machida with Iceman RX

Up and coming Mixed Martial Arts fighter Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida was the talk of the town as he handed Former UFC champion Tito Ortiz a defeat in what was said to be Tito’s last UFC fight. Another big winner appears to be Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell’s supplement company, Iceman Rx which had secured Lyoto Machida as a spokesperson for their nutritional supplement line prior to the fight. Although Chuck Liddell and Lyoto Machida share the same weight class, the business relationship was a simple decision for Iceman Rx, as Lyoto is touted to be a rising star in the Mixed Martial Arts world. “I think it’s great for Iceman Rx and I’m happy to have Machida, a great competitor and humble fighter, represent Iceman Rx at UFC 84. To see my banner in the ring staring down Tito, an old rival of mine, during the introductions and watching Machida pull out a dominant victory was just icing on the cake,” said Liddell when asked about Lyoto wearing the Iceman Rx Brand at UFC 84.

I went through three hard months, training for this fight, and it wasn’t just once or twice that the messages from you uplifted me and stimulated me to keep on training intensely. This fight was decisive. I was under a lot of pressure. I had to win by all means. But at these tough times I could see you guys were with me. To have the affection of you guys on my side is an honor, it is priceless. I was very moved and felt like crying after the win. Thank God I cry from happiness. At that moment I thought of all of you excited by this so long-awaited moment!! Now you can also talk to me on myspace (myspace.com/wanderleisilva.com). Here I’ll be able to get to know you better. Many people were surprised Sean Sherk stood up with BJ Penn the entire fight last night. One of those people surprised was BJ Penn. “I thought he was going to try to use his combinations try to set up more takedowns, I actually was training a lot of defending takedowns”, noted Penn after the fight. “So when he started going with combinations over and over I was kind of like, “Okay, I got to relax my shoulders, I got to start getting into this thing, because he wants to stand up.” So I was surprised. ”

Wanderlei Silva comes back in style

Posted 25 May 2008 in UFC 84, Wanderlei Silva

In a world where you’re often as good as your last performance, Wanderlei Silva has had a rough time over the past while. Dropping 3 fights in a row, 2 by knockout, and all of the a sudden the “Axe Murderer” no long generated the terrifying appeal as he once had in the view of many fans. 4 straight losses could be very detrimental to his career, so he came in highly prepared for last night’s bout with Keith Jardine. The aggressive killer in the standup realm showed up in full force as Silva laid out Keith Jardine in 36 seconds. Now Silva has some momentum to work with on the road to getting himself back up the ladder at 205.

Quoteworthy: Keith Jardine on what fighting’s all about

Posted 19 May 2008 in Keith Jardine, QuoteWorthy, UFC 84

What I can’t wait for is being in the middle of the 2nd round, middle of the 3rd round and just sweaty, bloody, tired and just me and him (Wanderlei) seeing who the bigger man that day is, and that’s fun and that’s what we’re in the sport for. All the press interviews, all the pre-fight stuff, it’s really just garbage. I’m here just to get to the middle of the 2nd, middle of the 3rd round and you’re surviving on guts and instinct, and that’s what’s fun, it’s what we live for as fighters.
