New UFC website launched

Posted 05 Aug 2010 in UFC

Welcome to the World UFC.com

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ — Over the last five years UFC President Dana White has listened intently as fans spoke about the kind of web site they want. About how the site should look, and what it should do. Some of these conversations took place in restaurants and on sidewalks, others on the arena floor and at Q&As. Others through text, Twitter and email. But no matter where, or how, the message was communicated, he heard it and shared the concepts with the team at the UFC.

Today, after a year of work involving a project team of designers, programmers and technicians across three companies led by digital agency Odopod, White officially introduced to fans the brand new UFC.com.

“Today, we launched a new UFC site that is faster and easier with new features and more video content and programming, and this is just the start – we are gonna continue to build this thing into the best web site in sports,” said White.

Upon first click, fans will appreciate a sleeker look and smoother navigation that exemplifies the UFC brand. Next, fans will experience a powerful new search engine, one that delivers lightning fast results with more video packages, deeper fighter statistics such as Skill Breakdowns, Striking, Takedowns, Successful Attempts, as well as more personal details, revamped fight cards, and enhanced multimedia options.

Fans will now hear their own voice in UFC.com, as the site is fully integrated in the language of Social Media, which means the site will automatically cycle-in and cycle-out fan conversations about the UFC with other online portals such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. In short, fans will be connected to the UFC in real-time across multiple platforms and devices, in their native language.

UFC.com now offers weekly programming, starting with “UFC® Ultimate Insider™,” a web show hosted by Octagon Girl™ Arianny Celeste. UFC Ultimate Insider runs Thursdays and announces UFC news as it happens, while also featuring exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, videos and other content exclusive to UFC cameras.

“UFC.com serves as the platform for a live global network that can reach fans no matter where they live, or what language they speak, so as we continue to bring the UFC all over the world with live events and programming, fans from all of these countries can use UFC.com,” said White.

Over the next year, UFC and Odopod will add pages and content in new languages to UFC.com and continue to reveal more and more features and programs, so UFC fans stay tuned!

The incredibly tough Swick refused to tap, and the fight ended with referee Herb Dean pulling Thiago off his opponent at 1:54 of the second round. Thiago earned “Submission of the Night” honors for his efforts.

UFC Tribute to Mask from Tapout

Posted 10 Apr 2009 in Charles Lewis, Mask, Tapout, UFC

This was a great and inspirational tribute to Mask “Charles Lewis, from Tapout, who passed away recently in a car accident.

Two quotes stand out most.

1. “Anyone that has ever fought for Tapout will know I told them this, “I don’t care if you win your next 10p or lose them all, I’m going to support you and back you unconditionally, because you’re a warrior.”

That’s absolutely the sign of a true mixed martial arts fan. Win, lose or draw completely appreciates the heart, dedication, sacrifice and courage that every mixed martial arts fighter has.

2. “At the end of the day that’s what everything is about, that somebody would be just a little happier because you’re here.”

“Mask” obviously was much much more than just a founder of a clothing line, he was a great person and highly inspirational and influential. It’s no wonder his passing away made huge news and waves not only in the mixed martial arts world, but way beyond as well.

More Expansion of MMA in India

From DNA Online:

Close to a month from now, India too will witness something close to a fight night for the first time and you could well witness the mixed martial art (MMA) form here. Full Contact Championship (FCC), an initiative by Prashant Kumar – a professional MMA exponent, will host the first fight night in Mumbai in April.

“The fight night culture doesn’t exist in India. There is a desperate need in India to provide talented fighters with a platform to perform. Also, sporting entertainment need not be restricted to cricket alone in our country. MMA Fight Nights will open up a new and exciting avenue in the area of sporting entertainment,” Kumar said.

Down the line the UFC wants to go to India, this might be some good groundwork to help make that happen down the line.

WWE’s Vince McMahon on the UFC: “they are not competition to us at all”

The Hollywood Reporter recently conducted an interview with WWE chairman Vince McMahon, and asked him the following on the Ultimate Fighting Championship:

THR: How has the success of UFC and other mixed martial arts programming impacted you?

McMahon: Most people thought at one point that we would be competitors. But it turns out they are not competition to us at all, or hardly at all. They are sport, we are entertainment; it’s a huge difference. The revenue they have cut into is that of boxing.
